The Thammattama which is referred to as the pokuru beraya is usually tied around the drummer’s waist and played using two drum sticks that are known as "kadippu". Drumming at religious festivals has been considered as an important element while it also has a special place as a performance art medium. Both sides of the Thammattama should be played simultaneously with the use of the kadippu while both sounds boast of unique tones.
