This scholarly work documents a 2008 examination of ancient and traditional boxes, caskets, and chests held in Sri Lankan museums, with particular focus on lime boxes used for betel preparation. The study explores notable pieces from national collections, including two remarkable gold lime boxes—one a Kandyan heirloom gifted by King Kirti Sri Raja Simha to the Dehigama family, and the other a low-country lady's lime box equipped with tooth and ear picks and spatula. These artifacts offer insight into the craftsmanship and daily practices of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage.
